Zanjan University of Medical Sciences was founded in 1987 with three main aims in mind. First, to provide undergraduate and postgraduate courses to train healthcare specialists. Second, to focus on research, and third, to provide health services. Courses are offered in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, health and paramedical Science, midwifery, and nursing.

The First hospital Ayatolla-Mousavi Hospital to provide health services and act as an educational tool for students. Zanjān, also spelled Zenjān, city, northwestern Iran. Zanjan is located in the northwest of Zanjan province in a mountainous area with the height of 1663 m above the sea level. Zanjan is the capital city of Zanjan province in Iranian Azerbaijan. It has a lot of historical and ancient sites. Zanjan lies 330 km northwest of Tehran, connected to it by a freeway. Zanjān city is now the centre of an agricultural area with abundant harvests of grain.
The most famous rivers of this city are Ghezel Ozan and Zanjan Rud and the historical bridges on the Zanjan Rud River as the symbols of Iranian-Islamic architecture. The Climatic diversity of the city has resulted in a four season area with higher capacities in the field of natural tourism.

Zanjan has a highland climate characterized by cold snowy weather in the mountains and moderate climate in the plains in wintertime. In the summers, the weather is warm. The average maximum temperature of Zanjan is around 27 °C, whereas the average minimum temperature stands at -19 °C.
