MOE was established in 1949, it organizes all perspectives of China’s education system, including primary education, vocational education and higher education, and supervises the entire education sector.
There are many medical universities in China, including some English universities. The Chinese Ministry of Education (MOE) has recommended a “strict ban” on the teaching of MBBS courses in English and Chinese through a bilingual curriculum. According to the Chinese MOE, only 45 universities are listed as eligible to teach MBBS degrees in English and admit international students.
Chinese medical universities have very low costs and provide high-quality education. This is the main reason why foreign students prefer Chinese medical universities. In China, clinical medicine is taught in both Chinese and English. In addition, Clinical Integrative Medicine is another English language course that includes Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine.
The Chinese MOE has clarified that universities not included in the list of 45 universities are not allowed to enroll foreign students in the MBBS program in English. The latest list of medical universities approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education for 2022-2023 has been published. The list has been published every year since 2007 when the “Regulations on Quality Control Standards for Undergraduate Medical Education in English for Foreign Students in China” were introduced.
There are slight changes in this list compared to last year’s list. Some universities have changed their quotas for MBBS (English-taught) international students to ensure higher teaching quality. All candidate who wish to study medicine in China are recommended to seek complete information regarding courses, fee structure and the duration directly from University authorized staff.
MOE-approved MBBS universities follow the rules below:
1-Most importantly, MBBS is taught in English | 5+1 year program
2-NO HSK-4 (Chinese proficiency test) to be taken in the first or final year.
3-All are top Ranking Reputed Universities offering MBBS English Medium.
4- The total number of credit hours for medical studies is comparatively higher than the unranked medical universities.
5-Only these 45 universities are legally allowed by the Ministry of Education in china English to teach in English. In other medical colleges/universities, teaching is in Chinese.
